Martial Arts, Wrestling, Boxing and Strength Training

How do the mindbody martial arts such as Tai Chi, Karate, Kung Fu etc differ from Western practices of strength training such as body building or aggressive competitive sports like football and hockey? How does Western military training reflect its cultural values? Examine some concepts of martial arts and see if there is an Oriental religion or philosophy that reflects them. Read Plato and Aristotle and identify philosophical concepts that carried over into the Greek gymnasium and then into our modern lives. How do the Eastern and Western bodymind approaches differ in their approaches to duality, unity, transcendance, movement qualities, aggression/attack/defense? How might one combine the best of both worlds?

"1)Is there any martial art which was formed merely to defend one's territory and property?
2)Do martial arts geared specifically for sport lack cultural and spiritual integrity?
3)Since there is such a personal element involved, shouldn't there theoretically be a martial for each and every single person?" (How does this individualism conflict with the collective traditions of the Orient?)
