Research Question
(Clear, unambiguous) |
"This possible project question is what
kind of the family structure have the most serious effect on children’s
development/education level?"
More specifically, it appears that the project aims to discover if
children with divorced or single parents are worst off that children with
both biological parents remaining married.
As this has been the subject of much research, it is certainly a
reasonable question, but it is unclear how the proposed research will add to
what has been done in the past. |

Relevant
Literature |
Given the extent of the
relevant literature, the couple references used are not sufficient even as a
starting point. |
|
Causal Interpretations
(clear, all parts defined, mechanisms, controls, plausible) |
The suggestion that "broken" families
are harder on children has a obvious measure of truth to it, but not that
much, so this is a slim causal suggestion.
Researchers have learned a lot about children's experiences in diverse
family structures under a range of social conditions. In simple terms, children benefit from a
stable, supportive home, with the number of parents not having that much
significance. |
|
Data
(variables, sample, comparison) |
While the Children's
Exposure to Violence data could be used, it is not obvious why this would be
a good choice. |
|
Research Value |
It is difficult to identify a value for this
research as it has not been shown what it might offer beyond what others have
already done. |
|
Overall |
The general topic is
socially important, but neither the conceptualization nor implementation
discussed here shows much promise. |
