Assessment |
Research Question |
The research area is clear, but the research question is
vague. Is not clear what "find
out if the possible salience of .. racial/ethnic stereotypes in mainstream
American media is associated with racial preferences in online dating"
means. Greater salience produces more
racialized choices? The pattern of
racial dating choices reflects media stereotypes if salient? |
Relevant Literature |
The general discussion of literature is okay, but a bit
meandering. A well-defined research
question should guide the literature review, which, above all else, reviews
the existing work regarding the research question. |
Causal Interpretations |
|
Data |
It is unclear how the data described can be used to address the
research question, at least as far as that question can be inferred. We have no way of knowing what media the
people in the dating data use, so we cannot relate their exposure to their
dating preferences. What the proposal
means when talking about combining the data is obscure. |
Research Value |
The general value of such information - if the research could
succeed - is largely self-evident; the central question concerns whether this
proposed study will provide any new knowledge. |
Timetable |
Vague. |

Priorities for Developing a Full Draft |
This
project needs a clearer and more precise research question, one that can be
sensibly related to prior research, and for which you can identify data that
will really allow addressing the question. |
