Research Question | The general goal of the research project seems clear, but it lacks specific research questions. |
Relevant Literature | This is reasonable plan to start the literature review. You would presumably want to research the literature that is focused on your research question, not just the generally relevant material. Note, here you need to identify what has been done on this target population, as well as the general literature on the related issues. |
Causal Interpretations | The "causal" discussion here calls out for elaboration
and greater precision. What are the
relevant causal arguments and hypotheses in the existing research
literature? Which of these apply to
the population you seek to study and which will be the focus of your
research. You cannot do everything, so
what will you do? The issues and the data seem as if they could lead to some problems of interpretation. For example, if adult children move closer to their elderly parents when their parents’ health begins failing, the data could look as if having children living nearby causes worse health, even though the opposite is true. This would be a kind of selection effect. In general, you face possible issues that the decisions of adult children and their parents may reflect their anticipation of things go come, and it is not clear how you will distinguish when that anticipation drives the choices from when the choices produce the anticipated outcomes. |
Data | The data appear to be good for the proposed project (from what one can tell after a quick look online). |
Research Value | Current presentation is okay, but as you suggest, you want to identify how your work can contribute to what has already been done. |
Timetable | This seems a reasonable first effort at a schedule, although you should be prepared for the possibility that the data will require more effort than you anticipate to prepare for your analysis. |
Priorities for Developing a Full Draft | At this point, you probably should focus on the literature review and becoming familiar with the data. |
