New York, NY -- NYU's ice hockey team pounded Columbia University 11-1 at MacKay Ice Rink in Englewood, N.J. on Sunday, increasing their record 4-0. Freshman forwards Mark Branden and Ben Maniere each had a hat trick, and sophomore forward Ari Ingber netted his first of the season. It was Maniere's second hat trick of the weekend.
The game marked the conclusion of a successful weekend for the Violets, in which they won all three of their games and outscored their opponents 30-3.
"Offensively, everyone is involved," said head coach Steven Hetherman. "The defensemen always have the green light to rush the puck up ice, and the forwards read and react to their plays."
The offensive fireworks began on Friday, as NYU shut out C.W. Post 8-0 in Syosset. The ice was slanted toward C.W. Post goaltender Joe Folgor for the entire game, as NYU out-shot the Pioneers 51-16. The Violets also dominated face-offs, losing only 18 out of 68.
Sophomore co-captain Brian Murphy scored his first goal of the season and waht proved to be the game winner 36 seconds into the first period, converting a pass from sophomore defenseman Vincent Bruce.
