New York, NY -- Who says you've gotta head to Madison Square Garden to catch a great hockey game? NYU's own outstanding icemen are steamrolling through their season right now. Though the NYU Hockey team has been around since the days when the university had a football team, as recently as two years ago they held an unimpressive 3-27 season. Now, thanks to a stellar new coaching staff, administrator support and player dedication, things are looking up. Way up. The team wrapped up last season with a 14-13 record and at press time was 9-6 for this season.
With a deep bench and plenty of talented up-and-comers, the future looks even brighter. Among the team's standouts are sophomore left wing Prentiss Noyes, ranked 11th overall in points in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (that's #11 out of players from more than 150 teams!) and freshman forward Daniel Perry, ranked 9th overall in points in the American Collegiate Hockey Association. Freshman right wing Joe Leonard was voted MVP of the Leatherneck Invitational Tournament hosted by Navy. Also keep an eye out for senior left wing Tom Capotosta, the team captain, and tough junior defenseman Gerry Milligan.
The team hit the ice last September to gear up for the grueling season in full swing now through March. Games take place at Chelsea Piers SkyRink. As an NYU student, you can hop a free round-trip trolley ride to the SkyRink from Bobst Library, so there's no excuse not to catch an NYU hockey game this winter!
