Fudan University

Fudan University founded in 1905 is located in Shanghai, China which is one of the most famous colleges in China. I graduated there, from physics department in 1998. Located in the largest and most promising city in China, she's supposed be undergoing a wonderful chance to develop herself pretty much in the next century. Right now she consists with five colleges on social science, including humanities, journalism, law, economics and management school, and more than 15 departments on physical science and technologies. The unification is in the plan according to which Fudan is going to be enlarged in the way that she unifies several originally independent colleges in Shanghai. It might mean Fudan will thus held a medical school which wasn't included before and many other departments will be enriched in faculties and hardware. The average number of total on campus students, about 15 thousand right now, is of course being enlarged quite much as well.

Fudan also accepts international students. Most of them go there to study the Chinese culture and history. About half of them are from Japan, which has the closest cultural relation with China. Also there're many Korean. About a quarter of them are western people from lots of nations.

Although most Fudan people consider the college as the best college in Shanghai or in even in the South China and among the top 3 throughout the state, many people don't feel satisfied by the nowadays condition of her. They mostly complain about the low efficient administration management and the intention that the research level of the faculties and the merits of the students in studying and working are declining. One proof for it is that the academician fellows on campus are fewer in these days while the old ones are retiring or passing away little by little and no enough younger is coming out.

That's basically true. However, just like the whole nation, the university is just undergoing a hard work reforming herself in many different aspects, one can not make a easy judgement about this over century campaign while no one is very sure about the right way leading to the brightest future. If anything goes not very well, that's not surprising at all. The most important thing is always to make sure that we are going in the right or almost right direction and to be confidence that we're nearing and reaching our aim in the long run. I'm not very sure if Fudan is now actually going in this way, but I'm pretty sure that if she is not right now, she's turning to it very soon in years and there must be a promising future just ahead of her. Best wishes to her.

Beautiful scenes around the campus. Although Fudan is not the largest and doesn't possess the most buildings among Shanghai colleges, I will say she's the most beautiful one. It's a pity that the area limited to the crowded circumstances is not too large, Fudan's is pretty neat, well designed, colorful and warming.
