Welcome to My Site - A Tribute to the:
Philadelphia Phillies - 2008 World Series Champions
Phillies fans, you've waited a long time
for this. Numerous heartbreaks later and 25 years in the making, the
city of Philadelphia can finally celebrate a world championship in one
of the four professional sports. On October 29, 2008, Brad Lidge struck
out Eric Hinske in the top of the ninth inning to give the Phillies
their second ever World Series championship. The city of Philadelphia
began to party because, finally, their team had not let them down.
60 75 80 83
Each
fan knew these numbers by hand, as if they were a winning lottery
number, only instead they were reminders of what was and (seemingly)
was never to be again: the last times that the Eagles, Flyers, Phillies,
and Sixers had each won a championship, respectively. Only now, 80,
much like the fortunes of these long-suffering fans, was reversed, and
'08 was destined to be the year Philadelphia fans would remember
forever. This website is meant to be a tribute to that special day, one
that, unlike most sporting events in Philadelphia, will not live in infamy.
Let's go back and revisit each pivotal step:
