I am a Ph.D Candidate at New
York University in Educational Theatre
and my specialization is Musical
Theatre. I've worked as a director, a performer, and a composer in the
theatre, privileged to work with many professionals through the years.
I have a love for musical theatre as an audience member, and a passion
for it as an educator and researcher.
This page is dedicated to academic research in Musical Theatre. While I personally love all of the "news" about what's happening currently on Broadway (and you'll find links to sources for it here), I hope for this page to be a place where educators and researchers can share information. I consider a "researcher" anyone who enjoys study in this area.
One of the aspects this page has taken on, and to be honest has surprised but pleased me, is that many of you have asked for help in solving Musical Theatre research questions. I've received questions of a wide variety, from years that shows opened and information about specific songs (obscure to popular) to more general information about genres and periods of musical theatre history. All of these are welcome and, though I certainly can't always answer every question correctly, I try to get back to you within a week of your requests (even if it's just to tell you I can't help you). Often all I can do is point you in the direction of available research and provide you with important bibliographic information.
I also continue to work on two projects:
one that involves
The other involves gathering information about the
Provincetown Playhouse
If you would like to be a part of my research, please
continue.
If not, perhaps you would like to connect to some Web
sites that I use often:
The New York University Department of Music and Arts Professions has many programs in the arts.
Another fun Web site is for New York's Playbill On-Line , which gives you current news and interesting articles about the New York and the international theatre community.
A site dedicated to the work of Stephen Sondheim provides information on his important work in musical theatre.
This site was recently awarded, for the second year in a row, a "Highly Commended" rating by Schoolzone
in England.
This rating was given by Schoolzone's panel of 250 expert teachers
and is included
in their searchable database of educational web sites.
