During the 20th century three systems tried to achieve world domination and they had a special enmity towards Judaism (and towards Jews often too): Communism, Nazism, Islamic Fundamentalism. All three can be seen as perversions of basically a good (Jewish?) idea. In each case they can be perceived as enemies of "civilization as we know it". The first two were defeated basically only due to the US and the third is in the meantime following the same pattern.

Communism is based on perversion of Jewish values and Marx; Communism was avowedly atheistic but can be seen as a religion, and believed in as a form of Messianic History.
Islam is based on the Jewish ideas of the unity of God, and Jewish influences on Mohammed, and the enmity towards idolatry, Islamic Fundamentalism perverts these ideas by declaring everyone else infidels. Judaism stresses the importance of maintaining the integrity of our (non-genetically determined) peoplehood/religion, avoiding intermarriage etc, and the central importance of a strong connection to a particular land; Nazism was a perversion of this idea. Nazism perverts the ideas of non-intermarriage etc and of considering a land or people holy: Nazism was pagan but with strong Christian elements (I have one of those chilling Nazi “Gott Mitt Uns” belt buckles).

Is this pattern present in previous Biblical and PostBiblical time?

We can all of course pot-hoc construct such patterns but the ones I came up with do not seem as compelling as the one outlined above.
[In ancient times who were the enemies of Judaism/Jews in the same way? Amalek perhaps. Egypt? Greece? They WERE civilization. Was there a power which played the part of the US?
But maybe the "civilization" we as Jews want to protect is something else than what Egypt, Greece, and maybe even the "West" purveys. Of course Christianity was in this category in later times.]

Why the USA as champion?
It is a particularly moral nation [as we in the US see it!] with "In God we Trust" as motto (see re Nazis above), and on our money (which has worldwide value). It is an important element in countering the others;
The USA has a nice mix of the benevolent versions of the socialism, nationalism/individualism, and religion of the three perversions mentioned.
