Syllabus, Schedule of Rehearsals

May 16th-June 23rd, 2005

This course is opened to graduate music students, and to senior level undegraduate students who have taken or are above the level of intermediate conducting. Composition, Music Ed and Performance majors may take this course without the prerequisite Intermediary Conducting. These students should contact Dr. Ghezzo for acceptance. The class will offer group and individual instruction, on a wide repertoire, from Classic to Contemporary Music, to include Instrumental, Vocal-Instrumental, and Opera. Of particular importance is the requirement to conduct a full rehearsal of contemporary music with a specialized such ensemble . For this purpose, students will prepare in detail segments of P. Tchaikovsky - Four & Fifth Symphonies, R. Schumann - Piano Quintet Op. 44, in E flat Major, I. Stravinsky - L'Histoire du Soldat (3 movements) and A. Copland - Appalachian Spring.

There is a $250 fee, collected for hiring a professional group for two rehearsals, dress rehearsal and class final production

Igor Stravisnky - L'Histoire du Soldat
Aaron Copland - Appalachian Spring, Suite for 13 instruments
Robert Schumann - Piano Quintet Op. 44, in Eb Major (get the score on line, at Dover Publications)

Students will conduct the INMC Ensemble in two intensive rehearsals and a final production.
